TRA Changhua Roundhouse, Railway roundhouse in Changhua, Taiwan
TRA Changhua Roundhouse is a railway maintenance facility in Changhua with twelve service bays arranged in a fan shape around a central turntable. The plant is used for efficient maintenance and repair of locomotives of various types.
The facility was built in 1922 during Japan's rule of Taiwan and was expanded from six to twelve bays by 1933. The structure survived World War II bombing and remains operational today.
The facility displays how Taiwan developed its rail system over time, from preserved steam locomotives to modern electric trains that receive maintenance here. Visitors can observe different locomotive types side by side within the maintenance bays.
Visits are possible Tuesday through Saturday between 13:00 and 16:00 and require registration at the entrance upon arrival. Visitors should check ahead as opening times may vary seasonally.
It is one of only three such functioning facilities left in the world, with the other two located in Mexico. This rarity makes it an important witness to global railway history.
